“WHAT IF I’M NOT A HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MAJOR? WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO PURUSE A CAREER IN HUMAN RESOURCES?”
We welcome students of all majors; business or non-business. The SHRM Aloha Chapter is a place for students who want access to resources that help them make new life-long friendships, develop their professionalism, network with professionals, and get to know HR recruiters in Hawaii’s business community.
Also, at our many networking events throughout the semester, members can talk to professionals that have worked or currently work in the industries you are particularly interested in. At our Professional Interaction Night, our largest event of the semester, we pair our members with quality professionals from companies that are in your field of interest.
We strongly believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn about HR because they are the first people you will interact with prior to getting hired, if not the ones who will hire you.

No, it’s not too early to get involved! Being able to network with students and professionals will provide you with more opportunities as you progress through life. We provide the frameworks and tools necessary to succeed not only as a professional in Honolulu, but also to go above and beyond during your collegiate career.

Everyone is always a little nervous when trying something new, so don’t let this stop you from gaining new memories, friends, and lessons! The Aloha Chapter has been and always will be focused on providing a fun and friendly environment for all of our members. Also, the Executive Board is here to ensure that every member is informed, prepared, and ready for the life of a SHRMie!
“WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE ACTIVE? WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND SOME EVENTS?”
As much as we encourage our members to achieve active status, we understand that you may have other commitments as well. You’re still more than welcome to be a part of our chapter, but all membership dues will remain the same. However, you are granted one free waiver (which can replace some events) and there are many opportunities to gain more throughout the semester!
Although you don’t have to come to every event we have throughout the semester, we highly encourage you to come to as many as possible so that you can meet new people and network with others. In the long run, it is extremely beneficial for your personal and professional development. Think of it as an investment to your future!
“WHAT ARE THE MAIN EVENTS YOU HAVE THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER?”
Mock Interview: An interview is perhaps the most important component in securing an internship or job. During the semester, SHRM will provide resume and interview workshops that will help all members get over any and all fears of doing interviews. Our Mock Interviews are also a great way to get first-hand experience and serve as a way to hone all of the things you will learn over the semester.
Professional Interaction Night: This is an amazing opportunity for professionals in Hawaii’s business community to meet and interact with our student members. Our members are matched up with different professionals for dinner and one-on-one informational interviews based upon majors and career interests. This is a time for our student members to network and ask questions and for the professionals to meet new and incoming talent, and maybe even an opportunity to scout out potential interns and full-time hires.
Alumni Social: Every Spring, we host an annual Alumni Social for our members to interact and network with past SHRMies. This is a great way to meet the people who have come before you and to see how far our chapter has come while seeing how much further it can go.
